TOTM (Tris(2-ethylhexyl) Trimellitate) | Vinyl Plasticizer

TOTM is a slow, steady stabilizer more than a softener. Think of it as a trace stabilizer with plasticizing properties rather than a plasticizer. It won’t add much in terms of plush, buttery feel, but what it does offer is unmatched longevity, UV resistance, and migration stability. This is the plasticizer you use when you want your toys to stay strong and supple for the long haul.

TOTM has a high molecular weight, meaning it moves extremely slowly through vinyl. It resists migration, heat, and sunlight better than nearly any other plasticizer. Because of this, it’s often used in high-temperature and medical applications where durability is everything.

While not a strong plasticizer on its own, TOTM works beautifully as a stabilizing additive, helping “lock in” softer, more mobile plasticizers like DOTP or DBS. It doesn’t chemically bind to them, but its presence helps prevent them from migrating out over time.

Use TOTM in small amounts after your main plasticizer treatment. A light follow-up application can help seal and stabilize the vinyl’s surface. Allow it to absorb for several days (or even a week), then buff away any excess that remains ,even after that time, a thin layer will likely remain on the surface, offering continued protection and longevity.
